Ian McLachlan, Playwright, Eleanor: The Housekeeper
Ian McLachlan has been teaching theatre at universities around the world for more than fifty years and is Professor Emeritus of Cultural Studies at Trent University. He is an award-winning novelist and his books The Seventh Hexagram and Helen in Exile were best sellers in the US and Canada. But he finds writing for the theatre, where there is an immediacy of contact with audiences that doesn’t exist with other literary media, much more fulfilling.
He and Rob Winslow have written eight plays together, and Ian finds the collective and community nature of the process - the research, the interviews, the writing, the workshops - endlessly exciting. He’s looking forward to their next project together.
